- November 2011: Latest paper on accessibility planning published. There is a long history of the abuse of accessibility indicators. In 1999 the appraisal body SACTRA highlighted that many claims about access to jobs were tactical as part of road scheme promotion and not supported by evidence. In this latest paper DHC Director Derek Halden shows how a more rigorous treatment of accessibility is leading to practical uses and helping to cut out the abuses of accessibility measures.
- September 2011: Launch of the Loop for a smarter approach to better accessibility.
- June 2011: Core National Accessibility Indicators calculated by DHC are published by DfT and for the first time include road congestion effects.
- August 2010: HometownPlus hits the headlines as the launch of WiganPlus approaches - HometownPlus is being strongly supported by retailers in Wigan as they prepare to make the most of the pilot to promote local bus journeys.
- August 2010: DHC Director Derek Halden promotes HometownPlus concept at Travel 2020 in London - HometownPlus has been set up by DHC with retail partners IAM, marketing partners Dumbeat Creative and smartcart experts Fortress. The presentation at Travel 2020 explains how an integrated approach is being take to grow transport and retail markets with bus company Arriva seeking to grow patronage through a customer rewards and marketing programme.Further information on HometownPlus
- May 2010: Social Sustainability in Urban Areas. - A new book has been published challenging conventional views of social sustainability. In Chapter 7 Derek Halden of DHC and Karen Lucas of Oxford University show how quantitative accessibility analysis can be used to help build strategic partnerships for sustainable communities.
- March 2010: Changing the Transport Delivery Culture. - Derek Halden explained at the annual STAR conference in Glasgow that a culture change is needed throughout the transport industry to make good transport affordable, sustainable, and progressive.
- April 2009: Proportionality is Needed to Nurture Scotland's Settlement Hierarchy - Derek Halden was asked to give evidence to the Transport and Climate Change Committee at the Scottish Parliament. In his evidence he suggested that more pragmatism was needed in expectations of local transport delivery. He described places where unbalanced investment programmes led to unsustainable travel patterns.Sunday Herald Article
- February 2009: Supporting an Industry of Action on Climate Change - Derek Halden was asked to give evidence to the Transport and Climate Change Committee at the Scottish Parliament. In his evidence he warned that setting targets without setting in place delivery mechanisms was like firing a blunderbus - unintended consequences could be more important impacts than any targeted delivery.

- May 2008: DHC Director Praised at Alloa Railway Opening - Ochil MSP and Scottish Government Minister Keith Brown MSP says his first nominee for the credit in delivering rail services to Alloa goes to DHC Director Derek Halden who "dererves the greatest credit for his vision and persistence".
- 18 August 2005: Accessibility Analysis Required by New Scottish Planning Policy - The new planning guidance for transport and planning in Scotland, SPP17 and PAN75, strengthens the requirements for accessibility analysis within transport assessments and development plans. Best practice guidance for meeting this requirement was developed by DHC for the Scottish Executive.
